Pancha Mahabhuta - Part 2

In the last post, I explained what are Pancha Mahabhutas and How each of them has different properties and functions.

But you all must be wondering, How do these Mahabhutas actually assemble and coordinate to form such structures?  Worry not, I will be discussing just that. From the atomic level to a complete Homo sapiens. Fascinating, right? So, let's jump in.

• At Atomic Level
You must be aware of the basic structure of an atom, How electrons revolve around protons and neutrons in free space. That free space is actually Akasha Mahabhuta. While the movement of electron is due to Vayu Mahabhuta. The energy required by an electron is provided by Agni Mahabhuta. The attractive forces between proton, neutron and electron are due to Jala Mahabhuta. Prithvi Mahabhuta is responsible for the mass of an atom.

• At Cellular Level
As we know,  the cell is a fundamental unit of life. But the functions fundamental to a cell are carried out by Pancha Mahabhuta. All the spaces and cavities in a cell are because of Akasha Mahabhuta and thus providing stability to its organelles. Vayu initiates all kind of movements, whether is it gaseous, or nourishment related. Agni helps in metabolising food. Entry and exit of food inside a cell is governed by Jala Mahabhuta. Prithvi maintains the shape of a cell.

• At Embryonic level
Yes, you read it right. Pancha Mahabhutas play a crucial role in embryogenesis as well. Vayu causes cleavage and then cellular division in zygote formed while Agni performs digestion. All the water content from amniotic fluid to blood are derived from Jala. All the solid structures are formed by Prithvi while Akasha provides space for growth of different organs.

• Constituent of Sharir
There are 6 prime components that forms a Sharir of which are Panch Mahabhutas and Chetna( Conscious). When each of these Mahabhutas are present in their own appropriate amount and align with chetna, forms a living being.

Like these, there are countless examples. This was just a gist.

So, that's it for today! I hope you all liked this post. If there are any queries or suggestions let us know in comments. We would love to hear. Do subscribe to our blog. And appreciation is always welcomed ;-)

Pancha Mahabhuta

These elements are referred as Pancha Mahabhuta which are- Akasha, Vayu, Agni, Jala, Prithvi.  Here 'pancha' means five, 'maha' is great and 'bhuta' refers to anything that can exist.  Each of these Mahabhutas have their own characteristics and features.  Let's look at these individually. 1) Akasha  It refers to 'sky' or 'ether' . It usually refers to empty spaces and hollow cavities in body.  It possesses properties like : • Soft (Mrudu) • Light (Laghu) • Minute (Sukshma) • Smooth (Shlakshana) It is also responsible for perception of shabda i.e. sound. 2) Vayu It means 'air' or 'wind'. Vayu in our body initiates movements.  It has properties like: • Light (Laghu)  • Dry (Ruksha) • Rough (Khara) • Clear (Vishada) • Minute (Sukshma). Touch or sparsh is perceived with the he...

Origin of AYURVEDA

Ayurveda is made up of two sanskrit terms, ayur + veda. Ayur means life or age, and the meaning of Veda is science or knowledge. So the literal meaning of Ayurveda comes out to be, The Science of Life. Lord Dhanvantari No one can tell the exact age of Ayurveda, but as the record goes, it is been  practiced in India for around 5000 years, i.e, practiced since 1500 B.C. - 500 B.C.. It is the oldest line of treatment, still surviving and helping in treatment, very effectively. Despite the fact that most of the documentations related to it are destroyed or lost, due to wars or famines or due to any other reasons, it is still very effective way of treatment, and is preferred over western medicine, not only by indians but in western countries also. Its horizons are widening day by day. As per the textbooks, Ayurveda is first remembered by Lord Brahma, and then passed on to his mind born son, Prajapati Daksha. He passed on the knowledge, as it is, to Ashwini Kumaras ( The pri...
