Doshas : The Natural Forces in Human Body

A very broad and versatile concept in Ayurveda, or we can say it is one of the basic principles on which whole of the Ayurveda lies. " दोष धातु मल मूल‌म‌् ही शरीरम‌् । " A Sanskrit verse, which means the body is composed of dosha, dhatu and mala only. " दूष्यते इति दोष: । " A Sanskrit verse (shloka) that gives the definition of dosha in a single line.  Doshas, by literal meaning are those factors that corrupts (दूषित करना).   One of the supporting pillars of body, including Dhatus and Malas. These are the forces that helps in formation and sustaining of a healthy body. The factors that regulates the well being of our mind and body, are doshas. Origin of AYURVEDA

Ayurveda is made up of two sanskrit terms, ayur + veda. Ayur means life or age, and the meaning of Veda is science or knowledge. So the literal meaning of Ayurveda comes out to be, The Science of Life. Lord Dhanvantari No one can tell the exact age of Ayurveda, but as the record goes, it is been  practiced in India for around 5000 years, i.e, practiced since 1500 B.C. - 500 B.C.. It is the oldest line of treatment, still surviving and helping in treatment, very effectively. Despite the fact that most of the documentations related to it are destroyed or lost, due to wars or famines or due to any other reasons, it is still very effective way of treatment, and is preferred over western medicine, not only by indians but in western countries also. This is achieved by applying ayurvedic principles thoroughly and changing our lifestyles accordingly. The sages of ancient times lived a very long and happy life only by following the principles of ayurveda. Originally born from lord brahma himself,  Ayurveda descended to earth by efforts of many sages and gods. Or so is told in the puranas and upanishads.
